Boardwalk Empire: Vintage Obsession
Posted on 3:13 AM by follow me
My new vintage drama obsession....
Whilst waiting for Mad Men series five (who knows? all fingers are crossed) I have been looking for something new to bridge the gap and I have discovered Boardwalk Empire. Thank heavens for Boardwalk Empire!
Boardwalk Empire is a true story and a book by Nelson Johnson. It has inspired a HBO series from Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese.
"Through most of the 20th century, Atlantic City was controlled by a powerful partnership of local politicians and racketeers. Funded by payoffs from gambling rooms, bars, and brothels, this corrupt alliance reached full bloom during the reign of Enoch “Nucky” Johnson — the second of three bosses to head the Republican machine that dominated city politics and society.
Boardwalk Empire is the true story that inspired the epic HBO series starring Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, and Kelly Macdonald, with a pilot episode written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos) and directed by Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver)." - www.boardwalkempire.com
Boardwalk Empire is set is 1920s Atlantic City and chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson played by Steve Buscemi who is both politician and gangster. So....Vintage 20s, Steve Buscemi....have I hooked you yet?
No...well the pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorcese who has produced the whole series along with Mark Wahlberg. Steve Buscemi has just won a Golden Globe for his performance as Nucky Thompson, the sympathetic gangster of Atlantic City. The show also won a Golden Globe for Best Drama. So...Scorcese, Golden Globes, vintage 20s, gangsters, crime, drama...must I continue?
The cast of Boardwalk Empire is enough to get you to join SKY just so you can get HBO. Stars like Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Pitt, Michael K. Williams and Gretchen Moi. Amazing. I am so excited about this series, great drama set in one of my favourite eras and you will be booking a trip to Atlantic City before you can say caravan! You must watch. I highly recommend.
