A restored version of The Last Picture Show is returning to UK cinemas to mark its 40th anniversary. The new digital version of the US classic from Peter Bognadovich will hit selected cinemas from April 15.
The film is based on the novel, the 1971. Written by
Larry McMurty. This film is a classic evocation of American culture, epitomised by the 50s fashion. It is a stylishly shot, black and white movie that saw Cybill Shepherd make her cinematic debut and shot her, along with Jeff Bridges, into the Hollywood limelight. It is a very cool cult classic that appeals to both young and old.

I think Cybill Shepherd may just be my new style icon...gawgeous!

Focussing on life in small-town Texas in the 1950s, the film is a coming-of-age story of two high school football stars. The Last Picture Show caused controversy at the time for its notorious swimming pool scene in which characters were shown skinny-dipping at an indoor pool party. The adult content led it to be banned in certain states on its release.

Check out the BFI website for cinema dates and times, here.
