Vintage Dress Style Inspiration

I have been gassing on for a while now about how I am going to get my act together and finally design and create my dream vintage dress collection and being based in Singapore seems to of put all my cards into place. I am surrounded by some of the finest seamstresses and tailors in the world and for the first time I can see my dream become a reality and it is both exciting and scary at the same time. I never thought this would be easy, but when you suddenly have the chance to create a dress of dreams the pressure can get to you. Which era? What colour? Fabric? Shape? Inspiration? Argh. So I have been collecting images and swatches over a long period of time and have started mood-boarding extensively which is one of my favourite things to do. See above! 


I love the idea of creating iconic dresses from the 50s and 60s....so please tell me what does your dream vintage frock look like? Colours? Fabrics? I find vintage fashion so inspiring, but I am finding it a little intimidating too. I would love to know what you all think? Do you wear vintage reproduction? Or would you rather stick with Vintage?

1950s Vintage Style Prom Dress

Its that time of year when the skies look less blue, you start wondering where you left your autumn coat and the kids go back to school. 

I love autumn....the colours of the leaves, fresh sunny days, Sunday roasts...why do I live in Singapore again? 

I am really going to miss autumn this year. Singapore has no seasons to speak of...we arrived here less than 10 months ago so last year really was my last British autumn. Please send postcards. 

Having no seasons means I have nothing to measure time by and I still cannot believe we have been living here for this long already. It still feels like we just arrived! 

Time really does fly when you are having fun. It is crazy to look back on the year and realise what we have achieved. 

We have finished this years wedding season cycle, dressed many fabulous leading ladies for various vintage events and even created our first collection of vintage reproduction dresses! A dream of mine since I started NBVCC over three years ago.

So I am very excited to announce we are creating another collection for this autumn and winter for all you vintage loving party girls who have Christmas parties and cocktail dinners to attend.

1950s Vintage Furniture...My Guilty Pleasure!

I was just reading a lovely blog by Fiona the "Straight Talking Mama" from Notorious Kitsch about Guilty Pleasures! Which has made me want to confess one of my biggest guilty pleasures...which is vintage furniture! I spend hours upon hours clicking "next page" on ebay and Etsy...I watch a zillion vintage items knowing I will never buy, but somehow it feels like it could be possible with them in the "watch" list. This category should really be renamed "Wish list". If that was not enough, I love nothing more than wandering around flea markets and antique centres looking for buried treasure.

My era of choice is the 50s and I need no pursuading when I spy an original 1950s side board or console table. Now Mr.B and I live in the Sussex countryside we have discovered we are only 7 miles from Lewes which is made up of antique centres and auction houses...there maybe trouble ahead... These are two of my most recent guilty pleasure purchases:
